Argumentation

An Argument Against Capital Punishment:

Dr. Charles N. Steele

July 5, 2007:

Dr. Steele argues that in the essay ďThe Necessity of Capital Punishment to Enforce the Right to Life,Ē Mr. Stolyarovís argument includes several errors.  Once these errors are understood, Dr. Steele thinks that the necessity of capital punishment dissolves.  Furthermore, he writes, there is at least one perfectly good argument for why capital punishment is undesirable.

Historical Analysis

Liberty versus Democracy (1943):

Rose Wilder Lane

July 5, 2007:

Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, John Adams, Madison, and Monroe feared democracy. But many in our time conflate "democracy" with freedom. Rose Wilder Lane's words ring true sixty-four years after they were written: today the confusion of the meaning of words in the United States is a danger to the whole world.

Time for Another Revolution (1952):

Frank Chodorov

July 5, 2007:

Frank Chodorov wrote in 1952 that were the disposition of the current crop of Americans comparable to that of their forbears, a new revolution, to regain the profit of the first one, would be in order. There is far more justification for it now than there was in 1776.

Politics

An Analysis of the Ideas of Fred Thompson:

G. Stolyarov II

July 5, 2007:

One of the best guides to understanding Fred Thompson's stances on crucial political issues is his voting record during his time as Senator. Mr. Stolyarov examines both the strong aspects of Thompson's record and some of its flaws.

Hamas's Takeover of Gaza: How Appeasement Amplifies Violence:

G. Stolyarov II

July 5, 2007:

The recent brutal and violent takeover of control in the Gaza Strip by Hamas is further evidence that appeasement does not work. Mr. Stolyarov shows how appeasement in the present amplifies violence in the future and explains the roots of the current Middle East crisis.

Independence Now and Forever:

Dr. Chuck Baldwin

July 5, 2007:

On this Independence Day, it behooves us to recall the principles of America's founding, especially in light of the ongoing attempt by today's political and commercial leaders to merge the United States into a hemispheric government. In fact, writes Dr. Chuck Baldwin, the clarion call for independence is just as fundamental, just as revolutionary as it was 230 years ago.

Celebrating and Defending Liberty:

Alan Caruba

July 5, 2007:

The values of freedom and individual liberty need to be taught in our schools, spoken of around the dinner table, and in all the institutions of the nation as a constant reminder why America is such an economic dynamo, a source of endless innovation, and a place where one can literally travel from coast to coast and consistently be greeted with courtesy and warmth by complete strangers.

Free Speech From the Mouths of Babes?:

Selwyn Duke

July 5, 2007:

Selwyn Duke writes that a mature approach to speech in schools begins with the understanding that it isnít a question of whether students will be muzzled, but only what kind of filter that muzzle will be fitted with.  This begs the next question: Who should make this judgment?  Parents should, through their local school boards; as with obscenity, local community standards should apply.  After all, who should be the arbiter of the rules governing your schools, you or some Black Robes in Washington?

Let's Declare the Fourth of July a Tax-Free Day!:

Dr. Edward Hudgins

July 5, 2007:

On July 4, 1776, America's Founders declared the country's independence from Britain, largely as a revolt against excessive and unfair taxation. So in our nation, which is much more overtaxed than it was over two centuries ago, it would be fitting if, in recognition of our Founding principles, federal, state and local governments made July Fourth a totally tax-free day. Dr. Edward Hudgins explores this idea.

Recapturing the Spirit of Independence:

Rep. Ron Paul, M. D.

July 5, 2007:

Rep. Ron Paul reminds us that constitutional republicanism is essential to protecting the individual rights and self-determination that is at the heart of our Declaration. As we celebrate the 231st anniversary of our nationís birth, I hope every person who reads or hears this will take the time to go back and read the Declaration of Independence. Only by recapturing the spirit of independence can we ensure our government never resembles the one from which the American States declared their separation.

"[U]nder the view of [force] fields as entities, all fields would need to simultaneously occupy all space, thus obviating the possibility of distinguishing among the various fields and their effects. If all fields are everywhere, it is impossible to say which field affects what. But if fields are recognized as mere abstractions and most often expressions of potentiality rather than actuality, then this absurd scenario need not take place."
