A Rational Cosmology: Edition II:

G. Stolyarov II

May 27, 2007:

A Rational Cosmology presents objective, absolute, rationally grounded views of terms such as universe, matter, volume, space, time, motion, sound, light, forces, fields, and even the higher-order concepts of life, consciousness, and volition. The result is a system verified by ubiquitous observation and common sense, the underpinnings of objective science which demonstrate a knowable, fathomable reality and set the stage for unfettered progress, confidence in reason, and full-scale logical investigation of just about everything existence has to offer.

Edition II of A Rational Cosmology has been amplified with six additional chapters, each of which has been divided into smaller essays focusing on the main issues to consider in developing a rational view of the basic phenomena of existence. There is, furthermore, an appendix which may be supplemented with time, as well as a list of related essays which draw on A Rational Cosmology for their insights.

Economics

The Humanity of Trade:

Frank Chodorov

June 16, 2007:

Frank Chodorov discusses the benefits of trade and comes to the conclusion that effort which does not add to the abundance of the marketplace is useless effort. Society thrives on trade simply because trade makes specialization possible, specialization increases output, and increased output reduces the cost in toil for the satisfactions men live by. That being so, the marketplace is a most humane institution.

Suspected Economic Laws in the Real World:

Fred Reed

June 16, 2007:

Why are Third-World countries poor, while those in the First World are not? Fred Reed suggests that there exist numerous economic, social, and political regularities which distinguish these two regions of the world and account for disparities in prosperity.

Ethics

The Ethical Case for the Right to Secrecy in Science:

G. Stolyarov II

June 16, 2007:

Mr. Stolyarov makes an ethical case for allowing any scientist to maintain secret his research findings, if he so wishes. From the standpoint of egoism and individualism, the discoverer must have absolute free choice regarding the disclosure of his work.

Historical Analysis

World War I as Fulfillment: Power and the Intellectuals:

Dr. Murray Rothbard

June 16, 2007:

In contrast to older historians who regarded World War I as the destruction of progressive reform, Dr. Murray Rothbard is convinced that the war came to the United States as the "fulfillment," the culmination, the veritable apotheosis of progressivism in American life. He regards progressivism as basically a movement on behalf of Big Government in all walks of the economy and society, in a fusion or coalition between various groups of big businessmen, led by the House of Morgan, and rising groups of technocratic and statist intellectuals. In this fusion, the values and interests of both groups would be pursued through government.

Politics

An Analysis of the Ideas of Mike Huckabee, Ron Paul, and Tom Tancredo:

G. Stolyarov II

June 16, 2007:

Three of the Republican presidential contenders - Mike Huckabee, Ron Paul, and Tom Tancredo - show promise as individuals who are largely devoted to limited government, individual rights, and sound policy. In this editorial, originally written for GrasstopsUSA.com, Mr. Stolyarov analyzes these candidates' ideological strengths and weaknesses.

An Analysis of the Ideas of Sam Brownback:

G. Stolyarov II

June 16, 2007:

To further educate voters about Republican contenders for the presidency, it is fitting to examine the ideas of Kansas Senator Sam Brownback, a generally reliable social and economic conservative, many of whose suggested policies are in accord with the principles of limited government. In this editorial, originally written for GrasstopsUSA.com, Mr. Stolyarov examines the strong points of Brownback’s platform, as well as the positions where his vagueness hurts him and hinders voters’ understanding of his true intentions.

An Analysis of the Ideas of Duncan Hunter:

G. Stolyarov II

June 16, 2007:

Duncan Hunter, a U. S. Representative from the 52nd Congressional District in California, is another of the Republican contenders for the presidency in 2008. Analyzing Hunter’s stances on important political issues shows him to be generally sound on his positions in support of the right to life and limited government. However, Mr. Stolyarov writes in this editorial, originally written for GrasstopsUSA.com, that Hunter’s recommendations to restrict true international free trade and prohibit online gambling are causes for significant concern.

Paying More for Milk than Gas:

Alan Caruba

June 16, 2007:

Americans face the prospect of paying more for a gallon of milk than a gallon of gasoline.

Alan Caruba writes that diverting corn to make ethanol that by law must be blended with gasoline is just about the most deleterious thing this nation could require, but that is exactly what it has done. The result is the average price of a bushel of corn is now around $3.60, up from $2.50 last year. Renewable fuels? Energy efficiency? It’s worse than a bad joke. It’s criminal.

Time to Annex Mexico!:

Alan Caruba

June 16, 2007:

Since we obviously cannot safeguard our border with Mexico, why not just annex Mexico? Alan Caruba advises the United States government to declare Mexico a protectorate of the United States and set about governing it in a benevolent, but self-interested way. In time, we could incorporate it as several new States.

Enemies of the Poor:

Roy Innis

June 16, 2007:

Many poor countries and communities are blessed with natural resources that could reduce poverty and change their destiny, if mining operations were permitted to generate investment, jobs, revenues and infrastructure development. The industry could also create a foundation for sustained and sustainable economic prosperity over decades, and even centuries. However, well-organized activists want to stop even modern, responsible, environmentally careful mining operations. They often talk about protecting ecological values and “indigenous” life styles. But they ignore poor families’ aspirations and promote policies that leave entire communities with little hope for the future. Congress of Racial Equality National Chairman Roy Innis says these actions deny poor people the basic human right to make their own decisions and take their rightful places among the Earth’s healthy and prosperous people.

"The logical extreme of the proposition that combating death is desirable is the proposition that combating death through any means is desirable."
