Mr. Stolyarov analyzes the common saying that there is nothing certain in life except death and taxes and argues that, in fact, neither death nor taxes are certain or necessary. Viewing them as certain merely imposes artificial barriers to human creativity in avoiding these great evils through scientific and political innovation. Indeed, certain plants and animals exhibit negligible senescence. They decay biologically at a far slower rate than humans, implying that the genetic structures that enable significantly longer lifespans already exist in nature. Moreover, the jellyfish Turritopsis nutricula is practically immortal due to its peculiar quality of periodically reverting to its youthful form. Studying these organisms is imperative for prolonging the human lifespan.
