Activism Without Thought: College Students' Support of Global Warming Propaganda:

G. Stolyarov II

April 23, 2007:

In this editorial, originally written for GrasstopsUSA.com, Mr. Stolyarov discusses the great mistake made by many college students who want to “do something” about the alleged global warming crisis and “get involved” without ever being exposed to a wide array of legitimate doubts about whether global warming is occurring and whether is it manmade. By automatically assuming that global warming exists and that man is responsible, many well-intentioned college students are in fact inflicting great harm through their activism by helping stifle the economic growth and technological progress that can improve Americans’ lives.

An Exchange Regarding Global Warming and Journalism:

Steven Po-Chedley and G. Stolyarov II

April 23, 2007:

The following electronic exchange of letters took place after Mr. Stephen Po-Chedley responded to Mr. G. Stolyarov II's article, "Activism Without Thought: College Students' Support of Global Warming Propaganda." Mr. Po-Chedley was mentioned in the article, and he offered a clarification of his views as well as additional information about his degree of exposure to both sides of the global warming issue. Mr. Stolyarov replied with a letter of his own. In the interests of pursuing truth and encouraging civil exchange among individuals holding viewpoints on all sides of an issue, TRA reprints this exchange here.

Valuing Short-Term Pleasure Over Life: The Culture of Abortion, Euthanasia, and Self-Inflicted Harm:

G. Stolyarov II

April 23, 2007:

In this editorial, originally written for GrasstopsUSA.com, Mr. Stolyarov analyzes the warped mindsets and misplaced priorities of those who would personally choose to have an abortion, commit assisted suicide, or gratuitously damage their bodies; such persons are part of a larger cultural mindset that values short-term sensory gratification over the healthy and fulfilling lives of oneself and fellow human beings.

Liberalizing Shop Opening Hours:

Cécile Philippe

April 23, 2007:

Cecile Philippe argues in favor of allowing stores in the French-speaking countries of Europe to select their own opening hours; this liberalization is in accord with the desires of a majority of the residents of those countries. It will benefit the consumers and result in a more prosperous economy.

Politics

The Democratic Plan to Withdraw from Iraq: Back to Civilian Micromanagement of the Military:

G. Stolyarov II

April 23, 2007:

In this editorial, originally written for GrasstopsUSA.com, Mr. Stolyarov addresses the follies of the recent Democratic plan to pull out of Iraq. Though opponents of the Iraq War like to characterize it as another Vietnam, it is in fact their meddling in the war’s prosecution that might make it so. Vietnam was characterized by severe civilian intervention in military operations—consisting of restrictions that made it virtually impossible for the military to do its job properly. If the Democrats have their way, the operations of American troops in Iraq today might be similarly hindered.

The Environmentalist Menace:

G. Stolyarov II

April 23, 2007:

In this editorial, originally written for GrasstopsUSA.com, Mr. Stolyarov contends that the greatest threat to Western civilization and quality of life throughout the world today is the “environmentalism” of those who would seek to limit and halt technological progress. The environmentalists’ overt and blatant opposition to technology and material prosperity is an opposition to human flourishing itself, and it has far more support within the West than any other comparable threat.  This article will discuss blatant instances of environmentalist opposition to technology and the kind of ghastly world they would create if given the chance.

Government and Racism:

Rep. Ron Paul, M. D.

April 23, 2007:

Rep. Ron Paul writes that the federal government has no business regulating speech in any way.  Furthermore, government as an institution is particularly ill suited to combating bigotry in our society.  Bigotry at its essence is a sin of the heart, and we can’t change people’s hearts by passing more laws and regulations.

Tax Day (1969):

Dr. Murray N. Rothbard

April 23, 2007:

Dr. Murray Rothbard argues that the first great lesson to learn about taxation is that taxation is simply robbery. No more and no less. For what is "robbery"? Robbery is the taking of a man's property by the use of violence or the threat thereof, and therefore without the victim's consent. And yet what else is taxation?

Tax Day 2007: Confronting the Candidates and the Politicians:

Dr. Edward Hudgins

April 23, 2007:

Every year, it is more difficult to know what to say about the evils of our current tax system, since most of it has already been said. Dr. Edward Hudgins suggests that we focus instead on whom we should say it to. Dr. Hudgins lists some pointed questions concerned individuals should ask politicians and candidates running for office.

Taxation is Robbery (1947):

Frank Chodorov

April 23, 2007:

The Encyclopaedia Britannica defines taxation as "that part of the revenues of a state which is obtained by the compulsory dues and charges upon its subjects." That is about as concise and accurate as a definition can be; it leaves no room for argument as to what taxation is. Frank Chodorov discusses the immorality of taxation from an individualist ethical perspective.

"The greatest threat to Western civilization and quality of life throughout the world today is the 'environmentalism' of those who would seek to limit and halt technological progress."
