Leonid Fainberg November 11, 2006: Leonid Fainberg comments on aspects of G. Stolyarov II's A Rational Cosmology, including that work's treatment of the subjects of existence, the universe, light, relativity, and quantum mechanics. Mr. Fainberg concurs with some of Mr. Stolyarov's points, critiques others, and offers additional original insights.
Historical Analysis
Education: Free and Compulsory: Part II: Dr. Murray N. Rothbard October 21, 2006: Dr. Murray Rothbard examines the history of compulsory public education in Europe and the United States, as well as the ideologies of those who instituted and inspired it-- people who almost unanimously wished to equalize, conform, and control individuals-- subjecting them to state authority, the educationists' particular doctrinal views, and the company of less than desirable peers.
Politics
Were Evangelicals Played for Suckers?: Dr. Chuck Baldwin October 21, 2006: Dr. Chuck Baldwin laments the Bush administration's betrayal of its evangelical constituency-- which has actively contributed to the Republican control of the U. S. government. Instead of offering less government, the Bush administration has expanded government while the administration's staffers have overtly mocked the evangelical constituency.
Dr. Chuck Baldwin October 21, 2006: The foibles of the current power structure in Washington, D.C., continue to mount. Dr. Chuck Baldwin writes that it has gotten so bad that it is becoming extremely difficult to tell who the good guys are anymore. Those of us who expected Republicans to provide some sanity to national leadership have been jolted into the reality that there is little if any relief when the GOP is at the helm. The Republican Party in Washington, D.C., has done nothing to show the American people that they are any better than the Democrats. They have exploded the level of federal spending. They have broken promise after promise to their conservative constituents. With total control of the entire federal government, Republicans have created a Big Brother regime that Democrats could only dream about. This is not the kind of leadership that deserves to be rewarded with reelection.
Fiona Kobusingye-Boynes October 21, 2006: Radical environmental groups are using exaggerated and even illusory “risks” to promote campaigns against using DDT and other insecticides to control malaria. The campaigns are having the predictable effect of slowing efforts to implement comprehensive, effective disease control programs. As a result, thousands of people, mostly Africans, are dying every day from a readily preventable disease. Malaria survivor Fiona Kobusingye-Boynes responds to the groups’ assertions about DDT risks – and charges that they are perpetuating disease and killing African babies.
Dr. Edward Hudgins November 10, 2006: Months of prognostication about the predicted pitiful performance at the polls by Republicans has now given way to prescriptions about the direction of the party. Should the GOP move to the center, the right or the left? Dr. Edward Hudgins thinks that Republicans right now are just going around in circles. The party's own confusion and incoherence about what it stands for will ensure that it continues to wander in the political wilderness; it must take up again as its guide the principles of liberty and limited government.
The Crisis and Politics of Higher Education: Dr. Larry P. Arnn November 10, 2006: Dr. Larry Arnn argues that the federal government should greatly diminish its involvement with higher education; he advises it to return control of college to private people to the utmost extent possible. The federal government should do what Reagan suggested: go back to the things it has the constitutional power to do-- or even go one better: let taxpayers keep their money, if they are prepared to spend it for something so vital to the public interest as education.
Gun Control on the Back Burner: Rep. Ron Paul, M. D. November 10, 2006: Rep. Ron Paul writes that the gun control debate generally ignores the historical and philosophical underpinnings of the Second amendment. The Second amendment is not about hunting deer or keeping a pistol in one's nightstand. It is not about protecting oneself against common criminals. It is about preventing tyranny. The Founders knew that unarmed citizens would never be able to overthrow a tyrannical government as they did. They envisioned government as a servant, not a master, of the American people. The muskets they used against the British Army were the assault rifles of that time. It is practical, rather than alarmist, to understand that unarmed citizens cannot be secure in their freedoms.
Selwyn Duke November 11, 2006: Selwyn Duke presents a humorous piece about the "Times Echo," a creature that believes everything contained in The New York Times to be the absolute truth and virtually the sole fount of enlightenment. Thankfully, this creature is soon to become endangered.
Dr. Chuck Baldwin November 11, 2006: Dr. Chuck Baldwin writes that the elections of last Tuesday surprised no one. Most people saw the handwriting on the wall for a Democratic takeover of the House of Representatives. As for the Senate, it is almost impossible to tell the difference between Democrats and Republicans, so who controls the gavel is of little consequence. Dr. Baldwin urges principled conservatives, libertarians, Christians, and friends of freedom to abandon the unprincipled Republican Party and contribute to the emergence of a major third party by 2008-- a party which will embrace the principles of individual rights and rigorous adherence to the Constitution.
"As we have seen, the legislator, according to the ideas of the ancients, bears the same relation to mankind as the potter does to the clay. Unfortunately, when this idea prevails, nobody wants to be the clay, and everyone wants to be the potter."
~ Frederic Bastiat
