Radical Feminists:

Fred Reed

August 22, 2006:

What leads certain radical feminists to mouth overt and deliberate insults-- such as "Men are sexist pigs!"-- in public? Fred Reed explores this question and concludes that the irrationality of radical feminists and that of anti-Semites are fundamentally identical in nature.

Literary Analysis

The "Social" Novels and Plays (1956):

Ludwig von Mises

August 14, 2006:

Ludwig von Mises notes that the public, committed to socialist ideas, asks for socialist (“social”) novels and plays. The authors, themselves imbued with socialist ideas, are ready to deliver the stuff required. Mises describes how these authors misrepresent the capitalist system and its actual great prosperity and opportunities.

Politics

The Threat of Rising Property Taxes:

Rep. Ron Paul, M. D.

August 10, 2006:

Rep. Ron Paul recommends that governments at the federal and state levels end the practice of annual assessments on real estate. Properties should be reassessed for tax purposes only when sold or ownership is otherwise transferred. The current system is terrifying for seniors forced to pay more and more each year, with no idea where they will find the money. And unlike other bills, property taxes must be paid or else one's home can be taken away. Rep. Paul's office hears from seniors who may have no choice but to leave Texas altogether because they cannot live with the uncertainty of arbitrary property tax increases. They literally fear losing their homes.

You Might Be a Constitutionalist If...:

Dr. Chuck Baldwin

August 10, 2006:

Dr. Chuck Baldwin is disillusioned with both the Republican and the Democratic parties in U.S. politics. Instead, he recommends supporting the Constitutionalist Party, which is loyal to the genuine words and spirit of the U.S. Constitution. Dr. Baldwin asks a series of questions to help you determine if your views align with the views of the Constitutionalist Party.

New Bill to Protect the Republic from Activist Judges Needs Co-Sponsors:

Tom DeWeese

August 15, 2006:

Activist judges have been a plague on American liberty for decades. Many of their rulings, based more on political agendas than the rule of law, are affecting individual states' authority to their 10th Amendment right to republican rule and are a threat to liberty. Tom DeWeese encourages you to write your Congressman in support of Rep. Ron Paul's "We the People Act," designed to curb judicial activism's danger to freedom.

Lebanon: The Imaginary Nation:

Alan Caruba

August 15, 2006:

Alan Caruba gives a brief history of Lebanon and explains why it can no longer be considered a country in its own right. Rather, it has been long dominated by Syria, Iran, and Hezbollah-- regimes and organizations fundamentally hostile to the West and to Israel. It is right for Israel to act to prevent threats from terrorists and terror sponsors acting behind the cover of the shell state that is Lebanon.

Your Taxes Subsidize China:

Rep. Ron Paul, M. D.

August 15, 2006:

Rep. Paul offered an amendment before the House of Representatives last month that would have ended the $4 billion subsidy our nation quietly gives China through the U. S. government's Export-Import Bank. The bank underwrites the purchases of goods and services by the Chinese government and others around the world. Unfortunately, only a minority of Democrats or Republicans supported Rep. Paul's measure. Apparently, many members of Congress are happy to bash China, but don't mind lending her U.S. taxpayer money at sweetheart interest rates.

The Civil Service vs. Rotation in Office (1995):

Dr. Murray N. Rothbard

August 15, 2006:

Dr. Murray N. Rothbard writes that the rotation-in-office system-- commonly derided as the "spoils system"-- actually had numerous beneficent effects. Its "throw the rascals out" approach prevented the entrenchment of a bureaucratic class like the one that emerged after the seemingly noble "civil service reforms" of the late 19th century.

The Evolution of Homeowners' Associations:

Shu Bartholomew

August 22, 2006:

Homeowners' associations are now mandatory in many parts of the nation, and one-sixth of the American population is under their sway. Shu Bartholomew warns of the rising power of homeowners' associations to control individual property owners' lives in ways that governments could only dream of. Read this essay to find out about coercive and inhibitive regulatory threats close to home.

Sabotaging U. S. Sovereignty:

Alan Caruba

August 23, 2006:

Alan Caruba criticizes the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP), which has not been submitted to the Senate for its oversight or concurrence because, by some magic of governmental definition, it is not a treaty. Instead, its administration is buried in the bowels of the Commerce Department. Mr. Caruba claims that the SPP would involve our government in so many common regulatory mandates with Canada and Mexico as to render the sovereignty of the United States a memory of what national self-governance is supposed to be.

"A justice system which kills Terri Schiavo and exonerates Andrea Yates is a depraved system indeed."

~ G. Stolyarov II
