Fashionable Fallacies (#3-9)
G. Stolyarov II
#3
Let us at self-dubbed pro-lifers glance.
Cloning they bitterly hate,
Against abortion maintain a stance.
Whereas the former life does create,
The latter it surely destroys.

What accurate grouping this movement employs!

#4
Subsidies, tariffs coming our way,
Making sure Africa backward will stay.
Breed us disease, but grow not our bread!
We’d rather be dead
Than better fed.

#5
Big government big tobacco pays
Not to grow its crop.
Big money with big tobacco stays
Even when demand does stop.
Do we get the bonus of second-hand smoke
Absolutely for free?
What truly pays for our right to choke?
Taxes from you and from me.

#6
Iraq with freedom does resound,
The leftists say in vain,
For weapons, they contend, aren’t found
Of terror inhumane.
Gas stores and radiation suits
Discovered are each week.
They evidence Saddam’s pursuits.
“But they’re not arms!” the leftists speak.

#7
Love is blind; so goes the lore.
To reason is futile, it nags.
But a princess attracts its practitioners more
Than does a harlot in rags.

#8
The flag destroyer commits his act
In violation of prudence and tact,
Because in a free country, says he, he can
Symbolically trample the freedoms of Man.

#9
“The people should choose their manner of rule,”
The pacifists staunchly declare.
“And if they should choose a dictator cruel,
That is wholly their own affair.
The people’s sacred right to elect
Includes voting away their change to select
Pursuit of their welfare and personal choice.”

My, how that empowers democracy’s voice!
