In the third part of his presentation encouraging tolerance of homosexuality, Mr. Stolyarov turns around the claim espoused by many conservatives that opposing homosexuality is essential to increasing the prevalence of moral behavior in society. Quite the opposite, repressing homosexuality channels people who would otherwise have been harmless into perverse behaviors, such as adultery and child molestation. The famous cases of child abuse in the Roman Catholic Church and the indiscretions of such prominent “conservative” figures as Ted Haggard and Larry Craig provide ample empirical evidence for this argument. Discouraging open manifestations of homosexual preference leads to horrendous crimes and betrayals committed in secret.
